Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for A/C season. Before the summer weather is officially here and you’re running your A/C system 24/7 to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your AC maintenance technician to visit your home and conduct your yearly ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are several other ways you can get your home ready for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

Don’t start taking your air conditioner apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the ground around your A/C to clear away sticks and leaves that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Mow the grass around the system and cut back any overgrown bushes or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Atmostemp Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will swap out your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your seasonal tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every one to two months for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioning equipment, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard A/C system service. Note that a clogged filter could actually damage your air conditioner.

  • Block the Sun

Help keep your home cooler by hanging blackout drapes or window shades to help keep the sun from heating up your home. This may also help save your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Remember to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling your air conditioning repair technician because your system isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your utility bills.

A seasonal air conditioner tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your cooling bills. Call Atmostemp Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your air conditioner is ready to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and find out about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
