What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Atmostemp Service Experts in Voorhees always tells you about how our technicians are NATE-certified, and while it sounds encouraging, what does it truly mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be certified by NATE. The certification is voluntary and technicians can work in the heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration industry without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Atmostemp Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and trained technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these criteria, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based exams that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Atmostemp Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only particular areas applicable to our technicians. NATE exam candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating

  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
