Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last few weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Not much is worse than going to bed at night just to find out your furnace won’t kick on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can check yourself before calling Atmostemp Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters monthly. If you don’t, they can become clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating system will still not turn on, give Atmostemp Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 856-310-4824 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
